When Matai reached out to me in May, he already knew what mattered most to him: he wanted to propose to Toni-Ann somewhere beautiful, quiet and away from the crowds.
He had discovered Hacienda Siesta Alegre and loved the idea of making it the setting for their proposal. From there, we started turning the idea into a plan.
Planning the Surprise at Hacienda Siesta Alegre
A surprise proposal is often decided by the little details Toni-Ann would never know were happening behind the scenes.
I made the initial contact with Hacienda Siesta Alegre and then connected Matai with their team so he could take care of the arrangements directly with the venue.
Once that was settled, we focused on the surprise itself.
We chose the exact area of the Hacienda where he would propose. I showed him where to park, which way to enter and how we would get them to the right spot without making Toni-Ann suspicious.
By the time they arrived, Matai knew exactly what to do.
Making Sure She Never Saw It Coming
There was one more part of the plan: me.
Instead of showing up as their photographer, I pretended to be a friend of Matai's and encouraged them to walk around and enjoy the Hacienda.
When they reached the place we had chosen, I quietly moved into position without Toni-Ann noticing.
Then Matai asked the question.
For those few minutes, there was nothing left for him to coordinate. No directions to remember. No photographer to look for.
Just Toni-Ann, Matai and the moment he had been planning for weeks.
And I was exactly where I needed to be to preserve it.
